Mead Real Estate Market
The town of Mead, like other small communities near Spokane such as Airway Heights, Deer Park, Liberty Lake, and Medical Lake, is a great place to find your new home. The town is near Fairwood and Country Homes, just north of Spokane. The median age in Mead is 41 years old, which is significantly higher than the average in Washington. It is definitely a town that people enjoy retiring to.
Things to Do Near Mead
If you want to get to the neighborhood of Mead, all you have to do is take the North Spokane corridor and get off on the North Parksmith Drive exit. It is perfectly situated between Spokane Valley and Spokane itself, but farther north to become its own community. North Market is the main road through Mead. The post office is located on the southern edge of this road and other businesses along the road that are popular with residents include the Lariat Restaurant & Bar, Uncommon Finds, Aprons Etc. and Zip's Drive-in. The computer game company Cyan Worlds, which are known for making Riven and Myst, is located in Mead and until 2001, the Kaiser Aluminum Mead Works as one of the top employers in the area, having been built in 1942.
Mead Community Highlights
The Amtrak in Spokane is very close to Mead, and there are a number of hospitals that are close enough to get to as well. Horizon Hospice is about four miles from Mead and DSI North Spokane Renal Center is about the same distance. The Spokane Falls & Northern Railway built a second stop in Mead in the year 1900. Back then, there was a blacksmith shop located there, a school that approximately 60 students attended as well as a Sunday school, and the Cushing & Bryant General Store, which also included the post office in that era. The post office is now a stand-alone entity on Market Street.

There are also a number of colleges and universities that are close to Mead making it easy travel back and forth to if necessary. Whitworth University is just four miles from Mead and Spokane Community College is just a little farther. Even the larger Universities in the Spokane area aren't too far away from a daily commute, with Gonzaga about eight miles away and even the EWU Campus in Cheney is less than 25 miles.
